Backup

If you want to make a backup of your notes/highlights please copy subfolder "user_annotations" in folder "JW_Helper" (for location of this folder please see app settings - base settings) with a file manager (e.g. Solid Explorer File Manager)

Please install JW_Helper on your new device and copy the backed-up files to same location. You may also copy the other subfolders if you like to keep your downloaded publications as well.

Bible

You may open a bible scripture by using the search function (top/right)
Use for example "pr5" (for proverbs 5, no space needed) or "1 samuel 2" as search term.

Own publication links

For instance: You are reading the bible and like to research a word in insight book.

Tab on the bible vers to select it.
Choose at the upper selector icon "Open new publications in secondary area" (arrow down or right).
Now, use for example the search function to open the matching article of insight book. (bible and your article visible at the same time now)
As soon as you highlight something in the insight article, a permanent link to this note will appear next to your bible vers.

Next time you open the same bible chapter, you will see this reference automatically.

JW-Helper may be used together with JW-Library or the Online Library. There is a feature to open currently visible content in JW-Helper directly in JW Library. Please use in 3-dot menu the option 'Open in JW Library'.

Also you may open an article visible in JW-Library or wol.jw.org directly in JW-Helper. In that case please use the 'Share' feature in JW Library App or Webbrowsers and send to JW-Helper.

Highlights

Stylings of highlights can be changed throug settings optin. You can set more styles if you want to.
(Settings can be reached through the 3 dots top/right or by touching the menu button of your table (depends on tab brand)
Use both hands for highlighting. Keep the highlight button pressed with your left hand when you are highlighting your phrases with your right hand, when you are finished, simply release the button.

SD Card

SD-Card works only for devices running Android before 4.4. There are limitations on later versions (like loosing all notes/highlights if you uninstall the app). Because of this, currently the data can only be stored on internal storage. This may change in comming app releases. (Note: since we don't include videos in downloads, publications do not consume that much space.)

Search function

Possible phrases are at the moment:

Scriptures ("Genesis 8" oder "ge 8"), as used in publications
Some publications by shortage letters, and page or chapternumber (e.g. "be page 78" oder "be p. 78")
You can use following publications: be, cl, rs, yb, it-1, it-2
Fulltext search in bible, downloaded publications and (partially) on wol.jw.org including wildcard ("beginning creat*")

Notes synchronization (experimental)

You may synchronize your notes (and/or whole contents) with multiple devices. Note: this requires external software and a bit of careful handling (see below)!

Install a file synchronization software on your devices (successfully tested with Resilio Sync, others may work as well)
Setup the sync software to synchronize existing folder /sdcard/JW_Helper/ (for notes and publications) OR subfolder /sdcard/JW_Helper/user_annotations/ (only notes) to your other device(s). Please make sure that you start with an empty folder on the second/third/.. device. Do not try to merge existing notes from multiple devices!
The app saves notes changes after latest 15 seconds. Depending how fast your sync app works, changes should become visible after latest 30 seconds on other device(s).
You must not edit notes on both devices at the same time (before they are synced)! Make sure the changes are visible, before you edit something on another device! There is no sync-conflict handling implemented!
